ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON CHRIS:
Chris Craft and Steve Kokai
Today (September 19) I had the pleasure of being the boat captain for 2 of the most promising, up and coming youth anglers of the Orange County High School fishing team. Fellow Harmonix Rods Pro Staffer, Kevin Beasley (Pictured at Right of Chris) & his partner BJ Mullins. The tournament consisted of 3 boat teams from 5 different counties throughout Va. Each teams weight was accumulated for the final total.
We met this morning at Sturgeon Creek Marina, after a small pre tournament meeting, the OCHS Color Guard presented our nations colors and the national anthem was played, all of the teams set out for the most prestigious award of all the high school fishing teams. OCHS has won this the past 2 years, so everyone had their sights on them.
We were boat number LAST, everyone made a right out of the creek and headed uplake. Except for us, we went down to the dike 3 area looking for the schoolies. There was 3 boats on the point that I wanted to start on, so I proceeded to the Rock Quarry area. BJ caught the first fish of the day. Finally, after the 3 boats left, we went over to where I wanted to start. I told the boys that they left to soon. The sun was just getting high enough to turn things on. The bass started blowing baitfish 1-2 feet out of the water. We worked the area back and forth in a 150 yard stretch. After an hour and a half of catching fish on top water, it was over. The totals from down there were 14 keepers caught. They were all pretty much cookie cutter fish in the 1-2lb range. There were 3 birds working the area.

Then it was time to upgrade the catch, we preceded back uplake and started throwing shakey heads. The shakey head fish were caught on Webb's Baits & JDC Baits plastics, and Kick'n Bass shad & crawfish attractants were used on all of the baits. The guys culled 4 fish out of the bag and improved their catch by about 2lbs. Our boat was the highest weighing boat for the tournament with 13.41lbs. As a team, OCHS weighed in 26.96lbs for their third victory in a row!!!!!!!!! The difference between 1st & 2nd was 1.30lbs. CONGRATULATIONS to every one of the anglers on the OCHS team. A job well done.
A special thank you goes out to Paul Thompson, Becky Gore and all of the other staff members on this great event. All together, these 2 young men boated 19 keepers and 2 short fish today. Its only going to get better as the water temps drop off even more.
THANKS Chris for your dedication
to our Future Anglers!
